James Franklin hints at special uniforms for Penn State’s Cotton Bowl appearance

Penn State is gearing up for a Cotton Bowl showdown against Memphis, and it sounds like the Nittany Lions may have some special threads for the game.
As fans know, Penn State has a simple, but very clean and recognizable look. The tradition of the white helmet with the blue stripe and clean jerseys is unmatched and remains a staple of the program. There have been a few planned tweaks at various times over the years, and there may be one adjustment to the uniform for Saturday’s bowl game.

During his Friday media availability, head coach James Franklin said the team is planning something to honor Penn State’s 1947-48 Cotton Bowl team. Franklin built a bit of suspense but he did not elaborate on what would be different.
Josh Moyer with the Centre Daily Times shared Franklin’s comments:
James Franklin says he thinks Penn State is going to do something with the uniforms — he wouldn't mention what — to honor the 1947-48 Penn State team, which had the first two African-American players to ever compete in the Cotton Bowl, back on Jan. 1, 1948.
