To say Trace McSorley is beloved in Happy Valley is an understatement. The quarterback has been the perfect face for Penn State football throughout his career.
Since taking over the starting job in 2016, McSorley has rewritten the Penn State record books, led the Nittany Lions to a B1G title and has won 31 career games. So yeah, the guy is going dearly missed.
But nobody is going to miss the gunslinger more than head coach James Franklin.
“He’s the same guy every day,” Franklin said of McSorley. “The guy hasn’t had a bad day in five years. He hasn’t had a day where he’s had an issue academically or an issue with a girlfriend or an issue with family and he’s brought it into the Lasch Building.
“I wish I could get another four years out of him. I don’t know if it’s possible.”
McSorley’s career at Beaver Stadium ended on a positive note. He accounted for 294 total yards and three touchdowns, leading Penn State to a 38-3 win over Maryland.
The Nittany Lions finished the season 9-3.
Penn State now waits to hear where it will be taking its postseason bowl trip, and McSorley will have an opportunity to do something the program hasn’t accomplished since the early 1980s. With a bowl victory, the Nittany Lions will have pieced together three straight 10-win seasons for the first time since 1980-1982.
McSorley accomplished so much in his four years at Penn State. There are going to be plenty of people, even outside Happy Valley, whoa re going to miss watching the quarterback play.
