James Franklin does not have a firm status for starting quarterback Drew Allar after an injury in Week 12. However, the early signs have been positive, Franklin announced during his Monday press conference.
According to Franklin, the team expects Allar to be ready to go in the Black Friday game. However, the team continues to plan on utilizing both Allar and Beau Pribula in the game plan.
Franklin specifically credited Pribula with doing a good job after replacing Allar in the win over Rutgers.
“We expect Drew to go. Just like we planned on last week, I still think both of those guys will have roles. Not dinner rolls, but roles. And I think Beau will be ready to go,” said Franklin. “He did a great job, he didn’t flinch, the staff didn’t flinch, the players didn’t flinch. He went in and made plays like we expected him to make.
“It’s too early for me to say (about Allar). We have not practiced since the game, but all indications I would think we’re going to be back to normal.”

Allar left the game shortly after taking a big hit to his throwing shoulder in the game against Rutgers. He did not return, and Pribula would go on to lead the Nittany Lions with 71 rushing yards.
Without Allar in the lineup, Penn State only called on Pribula to throw the ball one time. The passing attack was not needed with the ground game churning up 234 yards on 6 yards per carry in the 27-6 win.
Penn State is operating with a slightly shorter schedule this week with a Black Friday kickoff against Michigan State in store. We’ll see how that impacts Allar and preparation leading up to the game.
