James Franklin provides update on QB Sean Clifford

The starting quarterback job at Penn State is in flux heading into Saturday’s game against Rutgers, the season finale.
On Tuesday, Franklin provided an update on quarterback Sean Clifford, who left Saturday’s game against Ohio State in the third quarter with an injury. Clifford will be a game-time decision for Penn State’s final regular season game, meaning we could see Will Levis take the snaps.
Franklin said he wouldn’t be surprised if Levis was on the field for Penn State, even if Clifford is good to go on Saturday. He did say that he wasn’t sure how much Levis would play, though.
After Clifford left the game in Columbus, Levis helped the Nittany Lions rip off 17 straight points to climb back into the game against Ohio State. It wasn’t enough, however, as PSU fell 28-17 to the Buckeyes.
Clifford has started all 11 games for Penn State this season, throwing for 2,521 yards and 22 touchdowns with just six interceptions while completing 59.5 percent of his passes. He’s also rushed for 374 yards and five scores on the year.
Levis has appeared in six games this season, completing 20-of-33 pass attempts for 142 yards a touchdown and an interception.
Penn State enters Saturday’s game against Rutgers with a 9-2 record and is searching for its third 10-win season in the last four years.
