Penn State coach James Franklin is very pleased with the progress of freshman cornerback Kalen King.

Franklin said Wednesday afternoon that King is the “most advanced” freshman the Nittany Lions have had since he arrived in 2014.

That’s great news for Penn State fans, who are hoping to rebound off a disappointing 2020 campaign. King was a 4-star prospect in the class of 2021.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, King was the No. 234 overall player and the No. 16 cornerback in the class of 2021.

He hails from Detroit, Michigan, and attended Cass Technical High School.

It’s unclear if King will have an opportunity to start as a true freshman, but he’s making a big impact this offseason. Several reporters have noted that King has been the most-discussed freshman this spring by a wide margin.

Penn State’s spring game is on April 17.
