James Franklin’s Penn State Nittany Lions successfully secured their spot in the Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday. Ohio State shockingly fell to Michigan, which meant the Nittany Lions just had to take care of business against Maryland to clinch their spot.
That’s exactly what happened as the Nittany Lions destroyed Maryland 44-7. It was a full team effort as the Nittany Lions racked up 412 total yards of offense and held the Terrapins to just 194. After the game, Franklin commented on how meaningful it is to make the championship game.
“I’m just happy for our guys, we found a ton of different ways to win all year long,” said Franklin. “Overcame adversity, just proud of our guys. You look across college football, it’s hard to win consistently in the conference expansion, and our guys did it all year long, so very proud of them.”
The Nittany Lions were consistent this season with their lone loss coming to Ohio State. Now, the Nittany Lions get the chance to play in the Big Ten Championship Game against Oregon who is undefeated entering its regular season finale.
On Saturday, the Nittany Lions had solid games once again from their most reliable players. On offense, Drew Allar threw for 171 yards and 1 touchdown. Tyler Warren continued to cement his place in the Penn State record books, catching 6 passes for 68 yards and 1 TD.
On defense, the entire unit dominated the Terrapins. The Terrapin offense was held under 200 total yards and turned the ball over 3 times. Abdul Carter added 2 more sacks to his season total and collected 6 total tackles.
