Penn State entered the 2018 season with plenty of question marks.
Yes, the Nittany Lions had a superstar, Heisman Trophy caliber QB in Trace McSorley. But outside of the dual-threat signal caller, what did Penn State have?
A lot of talented, younger players.
And while those players can beat up on the lesser teams in the country, Big Ten play is different. That has shown to be true so far, as Penn State owns a 6-3 record overall, but is just 3-3 in conference play.
Starting the season, the Nittany Lions were ranked as the No. 10 team in the country according to the Associated Press. Things have changed — as Penn State was No. 14 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, but after its 42-7 loss to Michigan, the team will surely drop in the rankings.
On Tuesday, the weekly Big Ten Coaches Teleconference took place and Penn State’s James Franklin said something that makes perfect sense:

How can anybody be comfortable? Penn State is on the brink of becoming an elite program — if it isn’t considered to be one already. If the Nittany Lions put together a 9-3 or 8-4 season with zero chance at winning their own division, that has to be seen as a disappointment.
