James Franklin wants more universal scheduling to help with College Football Playoff

James Franklin doesn’t have an issue with the College Football Playoff format. Well, to be more specific, he doesn’t have a problem that the national championship comes down to four teams.

But Franklin did point out some issues he has with the College Football Playoff when asked about it at B1G Media Days on Monday.

The Penn State head coach pointed the subjectivity of the College Football Playoff, saying that there needs to be a more universal scheduling system.

I asked James Franklin about his thoughts on the effectiveness of the Playoff system. He wants:

-Everyone playing same amount of conference games
-Everyone playing same amount of P5 games
-Universal decision on FCS games

In 2016, Franklin and Penn State missed the College Football Playoff despite winning the B1G Championship over Wisconsin. Losses to Pitt and Michigan overshadowed the Nittany Lions’ conference title.

Last year, Penn State was on the outside looking in again after dropping road games to Michigan State and Ohio State.

It would’ve been easy for Franklin to mention an expansion to the College Football Playoff, but having a more universal scheduling system seems to be a no-brainer.
