Ohio State has always had an embarrassment of riches regarding its football program. This was on full display Saturday during the Rose Bowl game when Jaxon Smith-Njigba went off for 15 receptions, 347 yards and 3 touchdowns.
If you think that Smith-Njigba benefited from WRs Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, I would usually agree with you. But his last 5 games have been absolutely video games numbers.
Only 4 B1G receivers had more receiving yards FOR THE YEAR than Jaxon Smith-Njigba had in his last 5 games.
David Bell, Purdue (1,286)
Jahan Dotson, Penn State (1,182)
Garrett Wilson, Ohio State (1,058)
Jayden Reed, Michigan State (1,026) https://t.co/vnSVJP7Xfy— Dustin Schutte (@SchutteCFB) January 3, 2022
Only 4 B1G receivers had more yards for the entire season than Smith-Njigba had for his last 5 games. B1G foes were probably at first relieved when they saw that they will not have to guard Olave and Wilson next season.
Now they have to deal with JSN, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, who all could turn out to be just as good or better next season. QB C.J. Stroud is coming back next season with an entire year of playing under his belt. Ohio State will be a force and may very well return to the College Football Playoff Semifinal.
