Jedd Fisch on Ohio State-Oregon game: ‘Battle of $20 million rosters’

Jedd Fisch met with reporters on Monday afternoon for his weekly press conference.

Fisch discussed Washington’s disappointing loss to Iowa over the weekend and also addressed the future of the program. He mentioned being on a “level playing field” with other programs in the future from a roster-building perspective.

Specifically, Fisch noted the reported NIL-valuations of Ohio State and Oregon’s rosters.

“The new world order of college football will allow us to spend what other programs are spending,” Fisch said. “When you have that opportunity, then it’s going to be much more of a level playing field than what it is right now. We all saw what the Ohio State-Oregon game looked like. And that was a battle of 2 $20 million rosters. And I think what we’re going to see is we’re going to see more battles of comparably-compensated rosters and that’ll make it really cool to see what football looks like.”

As far as the “new world order,” Fisch seems to be referencing the pending settlement of the House vs. NCAA lawsuit that would usher in a new era of college football. The new rules could allow programs to distribute revenue-sharing payments (up to a certain amount) to athletes as a form of compensation.

Fisch (and likely other college head coaches) are hoping that the new set of rules will bring a bit more parity to college football in the near future. A final approval hearing for the House vs. NCAA settlement is set for April 7, 2025.

Washington is off to a slow start in its first season in the Big Ten. The Huskies are 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play to start the season.
