Jeff Brohm calls out Purdue’s preparation following blowout loss to Minnesota

Saturday’s game did not go well for Purdue.
The usually effective and dangerous offense of the Boilermakers never found traction in the 41-10 loss to Minnesota. The Golden Gophers limited Purdue to 233 yards of offense while also dominating time of possession 33:13 to 26:47.
Things were especially brutal after halftime with Minnesota outscoring Purdue 28-7 following the break. Needless to say, head coach Jeff Brohm was not pleased with the performance, and he called out his team’s preparation following the loss.
“In practice, I didn’t think that we came out, do the small things, we didn’t make plays like we did before,” said Brohm. “I think somehow we thought we could just came out, the ball would bounce our way, and good things would happen…We’re not good enough to not do the little things, not pay attention in practice.”
Brohm went on to call it a poor performance and noted how things went even more sideways after halftime:
“I don’t think we’re ready for the elements, we let that get to us as well,” explained Bohm. “But poor performance, we couldn’t make any plays…I thought we’d find a way to get better in the second half. We didn’t. It got worse.”
To his credit, Brohm praised the work and effort put in by Minnesota. He also took the blame for Purdue’s play and said he needs to be better as a coach:
“Give them all the credit in the world,” Brohm said of Minnesota. “They played more inspiring, they played more with their backs against the wall, they came out and executed. We did not, and that’s a bad job on myself…Bad performance today and I take full responsibility for it. We have a lot of coaching to do.”

With Northwestern’s win over Iowa, the Boilermakers are officially eliminated from the B1G Championship Game. However, Purdue still has a chance to make a bowl game. At 5-5, the Boilermakers need one win in their last two games to become eligible.
