For the second straight week, a late personal foul penalty cost Purdue the game.

Late in the fourth quarter, Purdue came up with a sack on Eastern Michigan quarterback Tyler Wiegers on a 3rd down play with less than five minutes to go. The Eagles would’ve likely punted, and the Boilermakers would’ve had the chance to run out the clock with a 19-17 lead. But a personal foul penalty on Cornel Jones gave EMU new life.

The Eagles traveled down the field — even converting a 4th-and-long play — and kicked a game-winning field goal to send Purdue to 0-2.

A week ago against Northwestern, Purdue came up with a 3rd down stop on running back Jeremy Larkin but an unnecessary roughness penalty gave the Wildcats a 1st down and the win.

Following the game, head coach Jeff Brohm wasn’t too happy.

There were high hopes for the 2018 season at Purdue after a 7-6 season last fall, which included a victory in the Foster Farms Bowl.

Now 0-2 on the year, the Boilermakers will play Missouri next week in their third-straight home game.
