If you didn’t know how Jeff Brohm felt about David Bell’s skill set, you do now.
Bell torched the Iowa secondary Saturday afternoon in the Boilermakers’ 24-7 upset of the No. 2-ranked Hawkeyes. Iowa entered the game as the B1G’s 3rd-ranked passing defense, allowing 183.7 yards per game, but also had a league-high 16 interceptions.
After Bell caught 11 passes for 240 yards and a touchdown, Brohm had a simple explanation for why Bell rose to the moment, just as he’s done 2 other times against Iowa.
Why has David Bell had so much success against Iowa?
Jeff Brohm: “Because he’s one of the best wide receivers in the country”— Jack Lido (@JackLido) October 16, 2021
The junior certainly has the Hawkeyes’ number. In 3 games against Iowa, Bell has 558 yards and 5 touchdowns. But Saturday was easily his biggest as his performance helped shake up not only the B1G picture, but also the College Football Playoff picture.
With 6 games left on the schedule, we’ll see if Bell can build on this kind of performance.
