Purdue coach Jeff Brohm offered an update on the status of wide receiver T.J. Sheffield heading into the Week 2 matchup at UConn.

Sheffield missed Purdue’s season opener for an undisclosed reason but is expected to take the field for the Sept. 11 contest.

Sheffield was rarely used during his first two seasons at Purdue, totaling four receptions for 23 yards. Sheffield was reportedly charged with battery on a public safety official on May 2, according to The Journal and Courier. Sheffield’s trial is set for Sept. 22.

Purdue edged visiting Oregon State 30-21 in Week 1. This is the first meeting between Purdue and UConn.

UConn is off to an 0-2 start to the season, dropping games vs. Fresno State and Holy Cross. UConn coach Randy Edsall stepped down on Sept. 6. Defensive coordinator Lou Spanos is UConn’s interim coach for the remainder of the season.
