“Win one for Joe,” was the mindset Purdue took to the field with it on Saturday afternoon as the Boilermakers hoped to honor the former legend with a victory over Minnesota.
Purdue did exactly that, winning in exciting fashion and restoring some of the pride and enthusiasm for the football program.
Markell Jones scored the go-ahead touchdown with time dwindling down in the fourth quarter and Ja’Whaun Bentley recorded a pick-six to seal the win for the Boilermakers, now 3-2 on the season.
And after the game, head coach Jeff Brohm had just one thing to say.
“That one was for Coach Tiller,” he said in the locker room. “That’s exactly what he taught, that’s what he preached and you guys got it done.”

Purdue honored Tiller in numerous ways on Saturday, but the nail-biting victory in Ross-Ade Stadium was the best tribute of all.
The Boilermakers are now 1-1 in conference play and will head to Madison to take on Wisconsin next Saturday.
