Jeff Brohm reveals 5 players have opted out of remainder of Purdue’s 2020 season

Purdue’s 2020 season has not gone well. After an opening mega-upset over Iowa at home the Boilermakers train went heavy off the rails, with the team winning one of the next four games to arrive at the juncture of ‘Disappointment, 2-4.’
After yesterday’s 32-27 blow out loss to a fair-to-middling Nebraska team, five Purdue players announced they were going to “opt out” of the pandemic season’s final two games and prepare for future endeavors, leaving their teammates to cover their abandoned posts on the field.
The exodus was all skill position players, including a lot of young talent from the running back’s room, a wide receiver, and a new defensive back.
Freshman four-star running back Tirek Murphy; red-shirt freshman three-star running back Da’Joun Hewitt; sophomore running back Alfred Armour; sophomore wide receiver Amad Anderson, and Iowa-transfer defensive back DJ Johnson all have decided to sit out the remainder of the season and potentially leave the program, according to head coach Jeff Brohm.
Jeff Brohm confirmed after the game that Tirek Murphy, Da'Joun Hewitt, Alfred Armour, DJ Johnson and Amad Anderson have opted out.

Purdue has in-state rival left next week in the battle for the Old Oaken Bucket, one of the sport’s oldest rivalry trophies. After that they’ll play an East Division team on the Big Ten’s Championship Saturday and the season will be over. At best, Purdue can get back to .500 in a 2020 campaign that started with all the promise in the world.
