Jeff Brohm says Purdue needs to be ‘hungry’ vs. Minnesota after big win

A few weeks ago, Purdue recorded one of the best wins in program history, demolishing then-second-ranked Ohio State 49-20. One Saturday later, the Boilermakers had a disappointing outing in a loss to Michigan State.
Jeff Brohm doesn’t want his team to lay another egg.
Purdue is coming off another thrilling victory, downing No. 16 Iowa thanks to a game-winning field goal from Spencer Evans. Fans stormed the field and the Boilers are still in contention for the B1G West title. While carrying that momentum into Saturday’s game against Minnesota is a good thing, Brohm doesn’t want his team to get to far ahead of itself.
“The last time we came off a pretty good sized win, we went on the road and lost,” Brohm said during his weekly press conference. “That’s the challenge for us. We’ve got to find a way to be the hungrier team.”
After that win over Ohio State — a weekend in which Purdue swept the B1G Player of the Week honors — the Boilers dropped a 23-13 contest to Michigan State. David Blough threw three interceptions and Rondale Moore was bottled up.
Now, Purdue is coming off another major win and travels on the road to take on Minnesota. The Gophers are a much different team than Michigan State, but they’ve been playing well offensively.
Minnesota has also recently made a change at defensive coordinator, as head coach P.J. Fleck announced the firing of Robb Smith.
Brohm said he expects to see some different things out of the Gophers’ defense, but nothing drastic.
“I wouldn’t think they’ll make wholesale changes but their will be changes,” Brohm said. “That’s why the move was made.”
The Gophers are coming off a 55-31 loss to Illinois. They surrendered over 600 yards to the Illini.
Purdue defeated Minnesota last year at Ross-Ade Stadium, but hasn’t beaten the Gophers in Minneapolis since 2007. The Boilers are also just one win away from bowl eligibility.
