On Saturday, the Purdue Boilermakers were in a defensive struggle with the Illinois Fighting Illini. Purdue came out with a 6-3 score by halftime but was down 9-6 near the end of the fourth quarter. Purdue came out of the game with a 13-9 win over Illinois at home.

The most impactful portion of the game was not the players or the coaches of Purdue, it was the fans, according to Boilermakers head coach Jeff Brohm. After the game, cBrohm had this to say about fans and their impact on the game versus Illinois.

“Our Purdue fans have been outstanding! To me, it’s second to none. They pack the stadium, they get there early. The students are involved, they’re loud,” Brohm said. “They believe in the team. It’s been outstanding! We want to play as hard as we can and hope for a good outcome. Our team, we always appreciate it.”

Purdue starts their 2021 season with a 3-1, their best start since the 2012 season when they started 3-1. The Boilermakers will host the Minnesota Golden Gophers (2-2) next Saturday.
