Jeff Brohm talks importance of keeping Old Oaken Bucket, challenges IU presents

Purdue’s bowl hopes were dashed last weekend with a loss to Wisconsin, but the Boilermakers still have an opportunity to still salvage the season. Beating rival Indiana and retaining the Old Oaken Bucket would be the marquee moment for Jeff Brohm and company.
Saturday, Purdue hosts Indiana in the season finale, trying to rattle off a third straight win over the Hoosiers. Brohm has defeated the in-state rival in his first two years, both times locking up a bowl berth with the victories. While the postseason may not be on the line, Brohm understands it’s still an important game for bragging rights.

Purdue will have its hands full with an Indiana team that comes into West Lafayette with a 7-4 record and a bowl bid locked up. The Hoosiers have been able to take care of business against solid teams in the conference this season and is looking to get its first win in the series since 2016.
Brohm also talked about what makes Indiana such a tough team to prepare for on both sides of the football.

Indiana comes to Purdue having lost its last two games to Penn State and Michigan after starting the year 7-2. The Boilermakers are coming off a 45-24 loss to Wisconsin, eliminating them from bowl contention.
Kickoff for the Old Oaken Bucket game is scheduled for noon ET and will air on ESPN2.
