Jeff Saturday was not a fan of NCAA’s investigation into Michigan’s alleged sign stealing, calling it silly on Tuesday’s edition of Get Up.
Saturday thinks the NCAA should do its due process before figuring out what to do with Michigan and Jim Harbaugh. Saturday said that it isn’t fair to punish the players by suspending Harbaugh, citing the team’s push towards a national title.
“I just think it’s silly. You can go through the due process. If Harbaugh is found guilty then you punish him to whatever level you need to. What you’re gonna do now is punish kids who are making a run at the national championship by saying that we’re gonna sit the coach at an inopportune time,” said Saturday. “Whether it’s Penn State, we’ll sit him for the Terps and we’ll take that one. Other than that, it would be absolutely ridiculous because you’re punishing the kids and not just Harbaugh.”
Mike Greenberg weighed in too and talked about how the B1G is very divided on the issue. He noted how there would be a lot of money to be made with Michigan in the national championship, but other B1G teams want Michigan to be punished.
“Tony Pettiti is very well respected and new in this role with the B1G, but it’s impossible to not point out that the conference is hopelessly conflicted in interest in all of this,” said Greenberg. “Getting a team like Michigan into the national championship would mean so much money for every school in the conference. Yet, he is getting pressure from the other schools to act in some way here.”
