Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is coming off a historic freshman season for the Buckeyes. Now, he enters the 2025 season as one of the top players in the country, looking to deliver a major season with a new starting quarterback as a sophomore.

In fact, the dynamic playmaker for Ohio State is already a preseason All-American for one publication. That would be PFF with the publication awarding Smith a first-team spot on its 2025 Preseason All-America team.

Smith was also named the top returning player at any position by PFF. Here’s what PFF had to say about Smith:

As a true freshman, Smith was the most valuable receiver in the nation according to PFF’s wins above average metric. His 89.8 receiving grade was third in the nation and over four points higher than any other returning wideout. He also led the Power Four with 15 receiving touchdowns, while his 1,311 receiving yards trailed only Tetairoa McMillan in that same group.

Smith is an athletic freak at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds and has an incredibly refined skillset for someone who turned 19 years old in November. Not only is he the best returning receiver in the country, but he’s also the best returning player in college football.

Smith joined Ryan Day and the Buckeyes with all the pressure and expectations that accompany a legendary recruit and the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. However, he instantly became a go-to threat for Ohio State, recording 2 touchdowns in his Buckeye debut vs. Akron and scoring a touchdown in the first 7 games of his career.

During the College Football Playoff run, Smith scored 5 total touchdowns, including an early score vs. Notre Dame in the national title game. He would also ice the win over the Irish with a big-time grab on 3rd down, setting up a game-sealing field goal for the Buckeyes.

Now, Smith enters the 2025 season in search of becoming the rare receiver to win the Heisman, and he actually has the 4th-lowest odds in the country, coming in at +1400 via DraftKings.
