Jeremiah Smith vows to never lose to Michigan again: ‘I can’t lose to them’

Jeremiah Smith had a freshman season for the ages with Ohio State. Along the way, he reset the freshman record books for the Buckeyes, led the Big Ten in receiving and was integral in a national title run for Ryan Day.

However, there was 1 major blemish in his season. That would be losing to Michigan, extending Ohio State’s losing streak and dropping Smith to 0-1 in The Game. Making matters worse, Smith was limited to 5 catches for 35 yards and a touchdown as Will Howard and the offense failed to get going.

Even a national title cannot fully remove the sting of that kind of a rivalry defeat. That’s just the nature of the business, and Smith has no intentions of ever feeling that sting again.

In a recent conversation with Manny Navarro of The Athletic, Smith vowed he would never lose to TTUN again.

“I’m not a sore loser, but I hate losing, and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy,” Smith said. “In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn’t want to go to Ohio State and lose to that team up north. I just hate them. Just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can’t lose to them in the next two years.”

The good news is, Ohio State will be the favorite for The Game yet again. However, it strikes as a bold proclamation for many, especially considering Michigan’s 4-game winning streak and against-all-odds win in Columbus last season.

For now, Ohio State is a 5.5-point favorite for The Game at the end of the 2025 season, according to DraftKings. Fans can use the DraftKings promo code Ohio to get into the action all year long with a great offer.
