Jeremy Werner and Joey Wagner were on the ‘Illini Inquirer Podcast’ to talk about the Illinois offensive line unit in 2022. One of the main points was how important Alex Palczewski is going to be for the Fighting Illini.

Palczewski is returning for his 6th season in Champaign. So far for Illinois, he has 52 career starts with 36 of them being at tackle and 16 at the guard spot. Palczewski’s ability to play multiple positions on the offensive line is what really makes him stand out to Werner. The big man could once again be very useful for Bret Bielema’s offensive line this year.

Here is why Werner likes Palczewski on the Illinois offensive line:

“I think Palczewski is a guy who has some positional versatility,” said Werner. “He played some guard as well, and I think it’s his best position at the next level. But certainly has been a very good right tackle for Illinois. The offensive line last year was a relative strength for the offense. Offensive line and running back, because they ran the ball extremely well last year. PFF had Illinois in the Top 15 for rushing/run blocking.”
