Jim Harbaugh is catching a lot of slack for his decision to start Cade McNamara Week 1 and JJ McCarthy Week 2 instead of naming a full time starter.
While the move makes sense from an optimization perspective, it’s a slightly unorthodox approach. Harbaugh detailed his decision Monday.
“It’s a process, that’s biblical, no person knows what the future holds. The process will be based on performance, we’re not gonna withhold any good things,” Harbaugh said. “Both have been tremendous quarterbacks. We believe both are capable of leading our team to a championship.”
The Wolverines open their season against Colorado State at Noon EST Saturday before hosting Hawai’i in Week 2. McNamara led the Wolverine to a College Football Playoff berth last season, while McCarthy’s high upside is a hard trait for coaches such as Harbaugh to ignore.
