Jim Harbaugh wants to recreate Michigan’s success from last season and return to the College Football Playoff.
Michigan finished the 2021 season with a 12-2 record and an appearance in the College Football Playoff against Georgia. Not only did Michigan play in the Playoff for the first time, the Wolverines beat Ohio State for the first time since 2011, and won the B1G Championship.
Harbaugh spoke about what will be needed for Michigan to have another successful season. To make a return to the pinnacle of college football, Michigan will need to have a near-perfect season (Via 247 Sports):
“Maybe just talking about (how) we participated in the in the playoffs. Maybe we got a participation medal that I’m not aware of,” Harbaugh said. “We want to just … some of those same leaders. I mean, you observed it, you saw it. Emulate what those guys did last year, because it was phenomenal, but maybe you can surpass it, too. Observe, emulate, surpass.”
For Michigan, it will be a combination of repeating what worked for the program last season and making adjustments. He wants his team to surpass what Michigan accomplished in 2021.
Ultimately, Harbaugh wants his program to improve and win a national championship for the first time since 1997. Michigan’s road back to the Playoff will be just as difficult as last season’s road was.
