One game at a time. That’s how Jim Harbaugh views the college football season. Despite all the conversation of a B1G title and a potential spot in the College Football Playoff, the Michigan head coach isn’t worried about any of those things.
It would be easy for the Wolverines to start preparing for the season finale against Ohio State, a game with likely national title implications on the line. But Harbaugh said his team isn’t worried about that right now. The focus, instead, is on Rutgers.
“It just doesn’t seem like a very good idea to look ahead,” Harbaugh said during his weekly press conference.
Nobody outside of the Michigan locker room is paying much attention to the Wolverines’ next two opponents. Rutgers is 1-8 on the season and has yet to win a conference game. Indiana sits at 4-5 on the season with a 1-5 mark in B1G play. The Hoosiers have lost four straight games.
For everyone else, the conversation is targeted around The Game, the B1G Championship Game and the College Football Playoff.
In a few weeks, Harbaugh might be willing to talk about those things. Right now, however, his focus is on Rutgers and one of the best kickoff coverage teams in the country.
“Rutgers has one of the best kick coverage teams in the country,” Harbaugh said. “Rutgers has a really impressive punter, as well.”
Michigan will probably see quite a bit of the Scarlet Knights punter, Adam Korsak, on Saturday.
