Jim Harbaugh says coaching at Michigan is ‘one of the great thrills of my life’

When Jim Harbaugh agreed to return to Michigan, it was one of the more exciting days in the program’s recent history. Finally, the Wolverines were able to get a guy who understood the tradition, history and passion that comes with the Maize and Blue.
Taking over your alma mater isn’t always a breeze, though. Sometimes, the pressure to win at your school is even greater. But Harbaugh, it’s a thrill to be coaching at the same place he played over three decades ago.
“It’s been a great thrill,” Harbaugh said on the B1G coaches teleconference Tuesday. “One of the great thrills of my life to be here. Love it. Love coaching, love football, love coaching at my alma mater. Been wonderful.”
In three seasons at Michigan, Harbaugh’s teams have two 10-win seasons and have reached the postseason all three years. It’s been quite an improvement from some of the struggle-filled years under former head coaches Rich Rodriguez and Brady Hoke.
Harbaugh says that he’s putting everything he has into trying to reach the fan base’s high expectation, which comes with all that championship history.
“They’ve been playing football here for 139 years,” he said. “They’ve seen a lot of tremendous football. That’s the expectation. You pour your heart and soul into meeting that expectation.”
