Jim Harbaugh may have found a special talent in sophomore defensive back Amorion Walker.

Walker began his career at Michigan as a wide receiver but switched to defensive back during his true freshman campaign in 2022.

Harbaugh told reporters on Thursday that he considers Walker to be a starter in Michigan’s defense “based on the first 2 practices.”

Walker largely went under-the-radar in the class of 2022. He finished the cycle as a 3-star receiver prospect and the No. 522 overall player in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Last season, Walker played in 6 games but only 1 of those appearances was as a defensive back. He caught 1 pass for 4 yards before making the switch.

Walker has tremendous size and length for the cornerback position. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds. He’s originally from Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

There will be opportunity for a player like Walker to emerge. The Wolverines lost DJ Turner and Gemon Green to the NFL Draft this offseason.
