Sometimes, guys like Jim Harbaugh don’t come across as enthusiasts for rules that prohibit targeting, helmet-to-helmet contact, or other aspects of the game that have been outlawed. His intensity seems to be associated with a physical and aggressive brand of football.
But Harbaugh is actually a fan of the targeting rule and other precautions that have made the game much safer.
During his weekly coaches show, a caller asked Harbaugh whether or not he liked the targeting call. “I’m for it,” Harbaugh said. “I’m for safety in the game.”

Targeting calls have been the cause of a lot of controversy on the field, with several different interpretations of the rule. Harbaugh doesn’t seem to mind.
Despite Harbaugh’s intensity on the sideline, he’s promoting a safer game for the future.
