Jim Knowles explains Mike Hall’s limited action vs. MSU, why he’s an ‘Oh yes’ guy for Buckeyes

Jim Knowles is ready to give those wondering why Ohio State defensive lineman Mike Hall Jr.’s production was limited against Michigan State an answer.
Knowles told reporters that Hall was coming off an injury during the Buckeyes’ 49-20 win over the Spartans last Saturday in East Lansing. The team felt it was better to rest him for foreseeable games than force him to do more with his body in an outing that was over before halftime.
Knowles said the decision to play Mike Hall only seven snaps against Michigan State was because he is coming off an injury. “His production for seven plays was exceptional.”

Hall, who finished with 13 total tackles and 4.5 sacks last season, was exceptional in his 7 reps, according to Knowles. The sophomore totaled 3 tackles and 2.5 sacks, winning near every matchup against his opponent on the line of scrimmage.

Knowles, who last season constructed one of the best defensive units in recent memory at Oklahoma State, is looking for his “oh snap” players. These are the type of prospects that line up on Saturday across an opponent, knowing the battle has already been won before the snap before the ball is hiked.
Hall might be one of those players for Knowles. That’s at least the hope for the 1st year defensive coordinator moving into the 2nd half of the season.
Knowles said he hopes opponents are saying “Oh no, not that guy” when Mike Hall comes in the game, but “for me, he’s the ’Oh yes’ guy.”
