Jim Knowles reveals that his Ohio State defense still has a lot to offer opponents from a schematics standpoint. He would go on to say that the Buckeye standard isn’t like most schools and that what is “way ahead of schedule” for others is just “on schedule” for them.

Knowles was hired this off-season to help fix the numerous issues that Ohio State had on defense during the 2021 season. Last year, the Buckeyes’ defense allowed 22.8 points per game and would end up losing to hated rival Michigan by 15 points.

Knowles previously coached at Oklahoma State where he would gain a reputation for sending exotic blitzes out of different looks to confuse the opponent’s offense. Once he was hired by head coach Ryan Day, most people knew that he would try to install as many of those schemes and use the Buckeyes’ tremendous talent.

Knowles has drastically improved the Ohio State defense and has only allowed 15.78 points per game this year which is almost a touchdown less than the season prior.
