Jim Leonhard made a statement about Paul Chryst’s firing on Sunday. He had some kind words for Chryst per a press release from the team.

Leonhard first joined Chryst’s staff as the defensive backs coach in 2016. A year later, he was promoted to defensive coordinator.

The Wisconsin DC first stated that his focus is currently with the players and the team. Wisconsin’s next game is against Northwestern on Oct. 8.

Leonhard sounds ready to take on his new role, and is glad that AD Chris McIntosh trusts him.

“I appreciate Chris McIntosh placing his trust in me to lead our team,” Leonhard said. “My focus right now is on our players and moving forward with preparing them for our game on Saturday at Northwestern.”

Leonhard praised Chryst as well. Leonhard’s first coaching job was with Wisconsin. He has only been with the Badgers since he got into coaching.

“I owe a lot to Coach Chryst. Everyone in our program does,” said Leonhard. “He gave me my first coaching job, and for that I am forever grateful. As a Badger, I thank him for his impact on our football program and our players over many years.”

Times are changing for Wisconsin’s football program.
