Jim Leonhard and the entire Wisconsin football program weighed in on the recent tragedy out of Virginia.

A former University of Wisconsin wide receiver, Devin Chandler was among the fatalities in a shooting Sunday night at the University of Virginia. All three fatalities from that shooting were members of the Virginia football program.

Wisconsin’s football coach Jim Leonhard issued a statement regarding Chandler’s death via Twitter.

“I was shocked and saddened to hear of Devin’s passing,” Leonhard said. “He had a lasting impact on his teammates, even after he left UW, which is a testament to the type of person he was. His personality was infectious and he was a joy to be around. Our team is hurting for him and his family. I want to personally extend my condolences to his family and the Virginia football family.”

The Wisconsin football team provided similar sentiments on Chandler in a statement posted to its social accounts. “Devin was a tremendous young man and a great teammate.”

Chandler transferred to UVA at the end of the Badgers’ last football season in 2021. He played for the Badgers in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, appearing in a total of 10 games. He did not see any playing action for the Cavaliers this season.
