Jimbo Fisher argues for CFP inclusion, takes shot at Ohio State: ‘Some teams haven’t even played 7 games’

Jimbo Fisher didn’t waste any time after Texas A&M’s win over Tennessee before he started arguing for the Aggies’ Playoff résumé.

“Seven straight SEC wins,” Fisher said. “Some schools haven’t even played seven games. If you want to pick the best four teams, we’re one of ‘em.”

That’s a direct shot at Ohio State, who moved to 6-0 after defeating Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Fisher is right — the Buckeyes don’t have as many wins as Texas A&M. However, Ohio State does have a conference title and defeated everyone on its schedule by at least a touchdown.

Included in those seven SEC wins are triumphs over Arkansas, South Carolina, LSU, Mississippi State and Tennessee. Prior to the start of that seven-game winning streak was a 52-24 loss to Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

It’s possible both Ohio State and Texas A&M will qualify for the top four, depending on what happens with the ACC and SEC Championship Games. Notre Dame and Alabama would likely need to win for that scenario to come to fruition.

The College Football Playoff field will be announced on Sunday.
