JJ McCarthy credited Michigan’s defense — and specifically Rod Moore’s game-winning interception — in his walk-off interview on FOX after Michigan’s 30-24 win over Ohio State on Saturday.

“Rod’s my twin, I absolutely love that guy,” McCarthy said. “It’s going to be our defense that helps us win games. They’re the best defense in the country. I just love my guys so much. That’s the thing about this team, we love each other. We play for each other. And it’s a special, special group.”

Moore’s interception with under 1 minute remaining essentially sealed the win for Michigan. It was the second interception of the game for Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord.

McCarthy also acknowledged Ohio State for the way it played in this contest.

“I’m just so happy to get it done with the boys,” McCarthy said. “There’s nothing better. So much respect to Ohio State, they’re a great group of guys. Great team and they played their hearts out.”

Here’s video of McCarthy’s interview with Jenny Taft:

McCarthy played well in Michigan’s win over Ohio State, which was the third in a row in this series for the Wolverines. He threw for 148 yards and 1 touchdown on the day. He also ran the ball for 17 yards in the win.

With the win, McCarthy became the first Michigan quarterback to beat Ohio State in back-to-back years since Elvis Grbac in 1990-91.

McCarthy and Michigan will be in action next weekend against Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game.
