JJ McCarthy will be donating NIL funds to children’s hospitals in nearby B1G areas.

Dating back to 2021, McCarthy joined Michigan’s program in 2021, he made an effort to donate part of his NIL money to children’s hospitals located near other B1G schools. He focused on children’s hospitals in Ann Arbor and Chicago, which he viewed as his two hometowns for college and outside of college.

In Ann Arbor and Chicago, McCarthy committed to donating to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital of Ann Arbor and Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. The donations will be coming directly from McCarthy’s funds from his smiley face items.

Since McCarthy began donating, more than $30,000 have been distributed to local children’s hospitals throughout the country. He used NIL funds to donate to local children’s hospitals in the area of select B1G schools. In the 2021 season, he donated to local hospitals near the campuses of Wisconsin, Michigan State, Maryland, Penn State, and Nebraska.

In 2022, McCarthy was able to add more local hospitals to the list based on Michigan’s road opponents. He donated to local hospitals near the campuses of Iowa, Indiana, Rutgers, and Ohio State. He also donated to local hospitals near the B1G Championship site in Indianapolis and the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix.

Michigan will take on TCU in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. ET.
