JJ McCarthy says Michigan wanted to face Cade McNamara, Erick All in Indy

JJ McCarthy and the rest of the Michigan roster still maintain a lot of respect for Cade McNamara and Erick All. After all, those two players played prominent roles in 2021 as the Wolverines launched their string of B1G dominance.
Unfortunately, those two players were injured during 2022 while McNamara was surpassed by McCarthy for the starting quarterback spot with the Wolverines. McNamara and All eventually transferred to Iowa ahead of the 2023 season, and thoughts of facing off against the former Wolverines made the rounds within Michigan’s roster.
Iowa and Michigan will in fact face off Saturday in Indy, but McNamara and All will not be able to suit up for the matchup. Both players sustained season-ending injuries with the Hawkeyes, and McCarthy admitted Monday he was hoping to face both players ahead of the season.
“I was, I wanted to just be able to see him again. It’s just amazing to be able to see how both of our journeys turned out,” said McCarthy about squaring off with McNamara. “It was obviously at the forefront of our mind at the beginning of the season to have that chance to play Cade and Erick again. Just be able to see the guys at the end of the day.”
The good news is there will be a reunion with All and McNamara in attendance, but it will not come with the two players in action.
“Just two great guys, it would be awesome to just be on the same field with them again. It’s pretty cool. Even though they’re not playing, will be great to see them,” McCarthy explained.
