Joe Burrow tied LSU’s single-game passing TD record…in one half

Ohio State has put the Joe Burrow days behind it. The beloved ex-Buckeye quarterback is still a popular name in Columbus, but with the likes of Dwayne Haskins and Justin Fields running the show the last two years, OSU fans seem to understand the split.
Still, Buckeye faithful pull for Burrow in Baton Rouge. They’d like to see the LSU quarterback successful in the SEC, and even Burrow himself said he’d like to play Ohio State in the College Football Playoff before his career ends.
He might get that opportunity if he continues to play like he did in LSU’s season opener against Georgia Southern. The former Buckeye is now a partial owner of a Tigers’ passing record, and it only took him one half to get there.
In Saturday’s opener, Burrow threw five touchdown passes in the game, tying a school record at LSU. All of those scoring strikes came in the first half.

LSU easily downed Georgia Southern, finishing with a 55-3 win to start the 2019 campaign. Burrow finished the afternoon with 278 yards on 23-of-27 pass attempts. Yes, Burrow had more touchdown passes than incompletions.
That’s a significant accomplishment anywhere. It’s almost unheard of at LSU.
Burrow is picking up right where he left off last season. We know it’s only week one, but LSU sure looks like a team that could contend for a College Football Playoff spot this year if Burrow plays that well each week.
