Ohio State fans can be proud of the team’s former signal caller rather than angry that Justin Fields didn’t win because Fields, a sophomore, was not eligible. Burrow will be honored at the 2019 Golden Arm Ceremony in Baltimore, where Unitas played his professional football, on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
With the honor, Burrow became the first LSU quarterback to win the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. An Ohio State quarterback has never won.
The award’s inaugural season was 1987. In 33 years, B1G quarterbacks have won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award just twice with the last one being Michigan State’s Connor Cook in 2015.
Burrow is the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy as well. He posted 4,366 passing yards, 44 touchdowns and only six interceptions with a 78.3 completion percentage and 10.9 yards per attempt average during the regular season.
