Joel Klatt thinks Michigan may finally have their answer at quarterback.

The team originally went with Davis Warren, but the former walk-on delivered middling results. Alex Orji was then brought in, but the run-first quarterback made the offense too one-dimensional. In the team’s Week 6 game against Washington, Jack Tuttle was inserted as the starter after the first quarter.

The Wolverines lost that game, and Tuttle didn’t put up gaudy numbers. Tuttle completed 10 of 18 passes for 98 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. However, Klatt sees potential in the former Indiana passer.

“Jack Tuttle did not get a lot of reps before going in against Washington,” Klatt said this week on his podcast. “Something inside me believes that we’re going to see the best version of Michigan in the second half of the season than what we saw in the first half.”

Klatt mentioned the disparity between Michigan’s best and Michigan’s worst, and how turnovers make all the difference.

“If they (Michigan) can hold onto the football, they’re going to be tough to beat,” said Klatt. “But if they continue to turn the ball over, then a lot of teams could beat them.”

The hope for Michigan fans is that Tuttle manages the games well enough for the rushing attack and defense to keep them in games. Klatt thinks this stability could be just what the Wolverines need.

The next test for Tuttle and the Wolverines will be in Week 8 against No. 22 Illinois. Michigan is a 3.5-point favorite in the game (ESPN Bet), which kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
