Joel Klatt breaks down the difference between Penn State this year and last season

No. 10 Penn State is off a 5-0 start to the season and faces their biggest game yet of the schedule as they take on No. 5 Michigan in Ann Arbor. Penn State also started last year with a 5-0 record before losing to No. 3 Iowa 23-20 in Iowa City. They finished the 2021 season with a 7-6 overall record.
Before the game versus Michigan, Fox Sports analysts Joel Klatt broke down the key differences between last year’s Nittany Lions’ team to this season.
Here is what Klatt said before the game:
“I think first and foremost its the style of play they have and they’re healthy. Last year against Iowa, we saw P.J. Mustpher, their star defensive tackle and we really saw their defense was never the same, while they were a really good very good and dominate defense at times a year ago. When they lost Mustipher, they relly lost the heart and soul of that team, they were never the same after that.”
“On the offensive side, they did not have a run game so when Sean Clifford got banged up and he lost some of that ability to be healthy, they were not the same on the offensive side, so you enter in these two freshman running backs Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton and they are a vastly different team, they’re more sustainable and they’re built more for this stretch run this year as opposed to what they were a year ago when they were also 5-0.”
