Joel Klatt explains why Ohio State is ‘the toughest possible opponent’ for No. 1 Georgia

Joel Klatt broke down the upcoming College Football Playoff matchups on his podcast ‘The Joel Klatt Show’ recently. Ohio State plays Georgia, while Michigan faces TCU.

Klatt argued that the toughest potential matchup for Georgia on their way to a second-straight national title is Ohio State. The Bulldogs will be tested by the high powered offense of the Buckeyes.

“You can make an argument that of those 4 (Michigan, TCU, Ohio State, USC), the toughest matchup for Georgia is Ohio State. So you can make an argument that as a champion and No. 1 seed, the week went about as poorly as it could’ve for Georgia, save for not beating LSU and taking home an SEC Championship. They’ve got to face the toughest possible opponent that they could’ve.”

Ohio State and Alabama have something in common. They run similar schemes.

Klatt defended his stance by reminding everyone that the last team to beat Georgia was Alabama in the SEC Championship last season. Michigan on the other hand runs a very similar scheme to that of Georgia’s.

“The difference (between Michigan and Ohio State) is Michigan plays a very similar style of football that Georgia does. Whereas Ohio State plays a style of football that Georgia — at least in the last 32 (games) — is the one style that gave them problems, and that was in the loss to Alabama last year. That’s really what hurts this Georgia team.”
