Joel Klatt proposes idea to further incentivize bowl games for players

Joel Klatt explained early Thursday why he believes the expanding Playoff will kill bowl season. At the same time, opt-outs are climbing year after year as athletes tend to put security in front of their schools – an objectively understandable choice when millions of dollars are on the line.
Klatt has a solution for opt-outs and for saving bowl season in general: Pay the players a share of the revenue during bowl season.
He explained his reasoning on The Joel Klatt Show Thursday.
“I think that the bowls should start to allow the players to share in revenue,” Klatt said. “I think we’re heading in that direction, I would be pretty surprised if the playoff, 26 and beyond, didn’t share a piece with the players.”

Klatt’s idea would certainly incentivize players to play in the game that don’t count towards anything tangible like a playoff hunt or national championship.
