Jon Sundvold has heard enough to offer some against-the-grain analysis that a No. 1 seed could somehow be an upset pick in the NCAA Tournament.

Speaking on WJOX in Birmingham, Alabama, the SEC Network analyst believes Purdue may be a darling upset pick based on general consensus.

“I’ve not met anybody or heard anybody say that Purdue will win,” he said. “Then I start thinking, ‘Well hell, maybe the greatest upset will be if Purdue gets to the Final Four.'”

While Purdue has freshmen guards, and there’s a historical theory that more experienced guards are needed to win in March, but Sundvold said that’s not always the case.

“You’ve gotta have guys take care of the ball, but if you’ve got a guy that’s 7-3 that gets every ball. He’s not just 7-3, he’s really good,” Sundvold said. “So I’ll go with that one. The greatest upset I see is that Purdue makes it and breaks everybody’s bracket because nobody has them.”

Sundvold also said there will likely be fewer upsets because mid-major players have already transferred to Power 5 schools, and will not offer as many surprises.
