Jordan McNair’s father on firing of DJ Durkin: ‘step in the right direction’

It took a long time, but finally, DJ Durkin is out as coach at Maryland.

On Tuesday, Durkin was back in as the man in charge. Then one day later, after a bunch of backlash and University of Maryland president Wallace Loh meeting with people who weren’t happy at Durkin’s return, the coach was let go.

What began all of the madness at Maryland was the death of former Terrapin OL Jordan McNair. McNair died of a heatstroke during a practice over this past offseason, which led to program investigations.

Durkin was then suspended soon after.

On Wednesday, following Durkin’s dismissal from the program entirely, McNair’s father spoke about the coach being let go:

Sure, Durkin being gone is a step in the right direction. But as Tom VanHaaren said in the tweet above, McNair’s lawyer, Billy Murphy, is wanting Maryland board Chair Jim Brady to be fired.

Brady was one of the reasons why Durkin was let back in as head coach on Tuesday. It seemed as though nobody outside of Maryland’s program backed that decision — not that many within the program did, either.
