Josh Gattis is a rising star in the coaching profession, and the Michigan offensive coordinator is also in demand.
Only days after he was mentioned as a top internal candidate if Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL, Gattis is being reported as a target for Miami to be the school’s next offensive coordinator, Pete Thamel of ESPN reported. Gattis won the Broyles Award for the country’s top assistant coach last year.
Gattis was the first winner from the B1G since Tom Herman won it for Ohio State in 2014 as the OC under Urban Meyer. Gattis beat Baylor OC Jeff Grimes, Oklahoma State DC Jim Knowles, Georgia DC Dan Lanning, and Wake Forest OC Warren Ruggiero for the award.
Gattis helped Michigan advance to the College Football Playoff before an Orange Bowl loss to eventual national champion Georgia.
Gattis originally came to Michigan as the OC/WRs coach in 2019 after stops at Alabama, Penn State, and Vanderbilt, among others. He guided the Wolverine offense to 37.7 points per game with a balanced attack that averaged 451.9 yards of offense.
Michigan ranked No. 24 in the country in total offense after Michigan averaged 30.6 points and 395.3 yards per game during his first 2 seasons directing the offense.
Gattis played at Wake Forest University, as an All-ACC safety in 2005 and 2006. He was a fifth-round pick of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He spent part of the 2007 season with Jacksonville before moving on to play for the Chicago Bears during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
