Josh McCray, Illinois RB, not expected to play vs. Purdue, per report

Illinois has a big one in front of it today. So far, the day has not started out great.
Josh McCray, a high-potential sophomore running back for the Illini, was seen in a walking boot Saturday during warmups and is obviously not expected to take the field vs. Purdue.
McCray has played in just 3 games this season, totaling 12 attempts for 39 rushing yards vs. Nebraska, Wyoming and Michigan State. He injured his knee against Wyoming in the season opener and has not been the same since.

With such a small body of work, some may wonder if his ability to redshirt is still on the table. Obviously, he cannot escape injury this season and leaves a hole in the Illini’s red zone offense as a bruiser back.
The Illini take on Purdue Saturday at Noon.
