Nick Saban has tested positive for COVID-19, the Alabama head coach now unable to coach this weekend’s game against Auburn.

Ahead of what is arguably the biggest rivalry match in college football, Saban will not be on the sidelines but rather in quarantine. Reportedly, Saban is experiencing mild symptoms.

Alabama is currently the consensus No. 1 team in the country.

The program released a statement about their head coach on Wednesday morning:

“This morning we received notification that Coach Saban tested positive for COVID-19. He has very mild symptoms, so this test will not be categorized as a potential false positive. He will follow all appropriate guidelines and isolate at home.”

In late October, Saban experienced a false positive test for the coronavirus and was able to continue his coaching duties as normal. No such luck this time for the Crimson Tide head coach as he is out this weekend and could also be out for his team’s regular season finale on Dec. 5 at Arkansas.

On Saturday, Alabama (7-0) host No. 22 Auburn (5-2) in the annual Iron Bowl. The loss of Saban for this game is a big loss given the stakes of the game in terms of the College Football Playoff.

This week, Alabama came out atop the recently released College Football Playoff rankings, this after a 63-3 win at Kentucky the previous Saturday.

Alabama hasn’t faced a ranked team since beating Georgia 41-24 on Oct. 21.
