Michigan fans received some unfortunate news Saturday afternoon during the broadcast of Michigan vs. Northwestern. According to Gus Johnson, Wolverines running back Justice Haynes is going to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing foot surgery.
There was some hope that Haynes would be able to return for The Game against Ohio State at the end of the season, but according to Johnson Haynes’ season is now over.
To say this is a major loss for Michigan would be an understatement. Haynes is Michigan’s most explosive player and would be a massive boon for the Wolverines, who are still alive for a spot in the Big Ten Championship game and College Football Playoff.
Haynes started the season about as well as you can ask a running back to start the season, totaling 821 yards and 10 touchdowns across his first 7 games. He put together a masterpiece of a game against Michigan State before exiting late with a right foot injury.
There is a silver lining here, though. While Haynes’ return was anticipated, Jordan Marshall has done well in Haynes’ stead. The sophomore back has totaled 124 carries for 724 yards and 8 touchdowns this season at an average of 5.9 yards per carry.
