The miniature Twitter feud between Justin Fields and Tate Martell has been restored. It was just on a year-long delay.

On Tuesday night, Fields appeared to take a shot at Martell while posting a video of himself teeing off on a golf course. Along with the video, the Ohio State quarterback wrote “Got a lot of work to do, but at least I didn’t swing and miss.”

Fields’ caption appears to be a response to a tweet Martell fired off a year ago with the same language.

Martell, who was still with the Buckeyes last winter, fired off a tweet saying “Word of advice: don’t swing and miss…especially not your second time,” when it was rumored that Fields was leaving Georgia for Ohio State. On the surface, it appeared to be a warning to Fields that he was in for a battle for the starting job in Columbus.

But shortly after Fields committed to Ohio State, Martell decided to leave the program. He landed at Miami (FL), where he failed to win the starting job for the Hurricanes. He then rotated between quarterback and wide receiver at times throughout the season, trying to carve out playing time.

Fields’ move to Ohio State paid off for both parties. The quarterback led the program to a 13-1 season, a B1G title and a berth in the College Football Playoff. Fields ended up in New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist and is now a favorite to win the award in 2020.
